palm-treesWhile Labor Day often signals the winding down of the summer season, Hilton Head Island locals consider it more of the start to a new vacation season. The events just keep on coming and with the weather averaging between 70-85 degrees, it’s the perfect time to be here!

1. One of this area’s most anticipated annual events is the Hilton Head Island Celebrity Golf Tournament, this year August 30-September 1. The golf tournament benefits 20 well-deserving children’s charities in the South Carolina Lowcountry.

2. Harbourfest at Shelter Cove is an annual tradition that brings family and friends together all summer long, with Labor Day being the completion. During HarbourFest, Shelter Cove features live entertainment seven nights a week, plus unforgettable food, arts and crafts from an array of vendors, bouncy houses, fireworks and a flurry of fun activity. There is no admission charge for HarbourFest!

3. Family Freshwater Fishing Tournament – On Saturday, August 31, from 9:30am-12pm, join the Sea Pines Forest Preserve to fish for bass, bream and catfish at Fish Island. Try to win a prize in one of the tournament categories and roast hot dogs and marshmallows around a fire. Reservations are required and may be made by calling The Sea Pines Resort Recreation Department at 843-842-1979.

Huge Facelift in Store for Hilton Head Island’s Sea Pines Beach Club

Sea Pines Resort Hilton Head IslandThe Sea Pines Beach Club here in Hilton Head Island is expected to undergo a huge renovation, allowing the club to operate year-round instead of just eight months a year!

This news is very exciting for residents as well as vacationers, as the resort experience will be enhanced with more amenities, an indoor restaurant and bar, an open-air beach bar, as well as a second-floor space for private receptions, conferences and parties! The renovation will also include retail and office space, and expanded restrooms, showers and changing rooms.

The new facility will be more than 25,000 square feet and will be built on the site of the current club, off North Sea Pines Drive next to Marriott’s Monarch at Sea Pines.

The Town of Hilton Head Island Design Review Board still has to review and approve the plans, which isn’t until April 23, but pending that, the expected start date of the facelift would be this coming fall, with completion expected by next year.

“Right now we have a really dated and tired facility that is really in need of replacement,” said Steve Birdwell, Sea Pines Resort president, adding that the new club will remain “casual, with a beachy feeling to it.”

“We’re very much a family beach resort, and we think this new beach club is really planned for the long-term future for the resort,” Birdwell said. “I think creating a great beachfront and beach experience … is important as we think about the next 10, 20 and even 30 years.”

RBC Heritage Returns to Hilton Head Island for 45th Year!

RBC Heritage Hilton Head Island

RBC Heritage Hilton Head Island

Hilton Head Island is gearing up for one of its greatest golf traditions, the RBC Heritage at beautiful Harbour Town Golf Links in The Sea Pines Resort! South Carolina’s only PGA TOUR event is almost (and finally) here!

“The RBC Heritage on Hilton Head Island has the PGA TOUR’s most unique atmosphere. Louder colors and louder fans. More sun. More fun. And a completely refreshing attitude. If other TOUR stops are pinstripes and pretense, the RBC Heritage is a tournament of a different color. So come get your plaid on at the 2013 RBC Heritage!”

This will be the 45th year for this tradition, bringing in spectators from all over to enjoy the event. Just a few short days away, the event begins on Monday, April 15 and goes until April 21.

The RBC Heritage has certainly grown over the course of its 45 years! What started as a $100,000 purse has grown to $5.7 million in 2012 and we expect over 100,000 fans to attend the tournament! In fact, CBS and The Golf Channel block out 15 hours of live TV coverage, sharing the tournament with Europe, South America and the Orient.

“The tournament is proud of its champions, some of the most distinguished players in golf’s history. In addition to Arnold Palmer; Jack Nicklaus, Bernhard Langer, Johnny Miller Greg Norman, Nick Price, Tom Watson, Davis Love III and the late Payne Stewart are just a few of the names inscribed upon our champions’ trophy.”

The RBC Heritage is more than just a golf tournament to Hilton Head Island residents, as it brings in around $80 million to South Carolina each year. All of the funds that are raised during the tournament are distributed to those in need throughout our area. Since 1987, more than $23 million has been donated to hundreds of organizations.
