Guide to 4th of July Events in Hilton Head Island

As if there weren’t enough reasons to visit Hilton Head Island, but now with the 4th of July holiday just around the corner, the island has things in store you won’t find anywhere else.  Let’s face it, Hilton Head itself is a spectacular place to be any time of the year, but there’s something about the 4th of July that sparks the fun in all of us!

Whether you are celebrating July 4th by yourself, or with friends or family, there’s an event planned for you.  Here’s your guide to what’s happening in Hilton Head.  If you know of other things going on, please leave a comment at the end of this blog post.

Fourth of July at Harbour Town
Head to the Sea Pines Resort, located at 32 Greenwood Drive on the South end of the Island for a family friendly 4th of July celebration including children’s activities, live music, food and drinks, and of course fireworks!  The fireworks will begin around 9:15 pm from a barge in Calibogue Sound.

There is a $5 gate fee to enter the resort unless you already have a Sea Pines pass, and there will be also be free shuttle service between Harbour Town and various parking lots in Sea Pines.  For more information you can call 843-785-3333.

4th of July Celebration at Skull Creek Boathouse
If you’re spending the night of the 4th with other adults, this is the party for you!  At 6 pm, head to Hudson’s Seafood House on the Docks, Chart House, or the Skull Creek Boathouse for live, outside entertainment, food, drinks, and of course fireworks!  They will be launched around 9:30 pm from a barge in the Intracoastal Waterway/Skull Creek on the North End of Hilton Head.

Summer Jams – 4th of July Edition
This event is very family friendly and takes place at Shelter Cove Community Park, located at 39 Shelter Cove Lane, across from Palmetto Dunes.  Starting at 6 pm, your family will enjoy music and games, a kids zone, cotton candy, pizza, BBQ, and more!  Bring your camera and chairs and stake out your spot for the fireworks (of course there are fireworks), which are launched around 9 pm.

The HarbourFest celebration will feature special patriotic selections performed by Shannon Tanner at 6:30 and 8:00 pm.  All proceeds from this event will benefit the Hilton Head Island Recreation Association Children’s Scholarship Fund, as they do each and every year.  For more information you can call 843-681-7273.

I hope you are looking forward to the 4th of July and that it is fun and safe for you and your family and friends.

7 Curb Appeal Tips to Prepare Your Home for Sale

The process of selling a home doesn’t have to be as difficult as you may think.  By avoiding a few mistakes right from the beginning, you can help to position your home ahead of the competition and concentrate on getting it sold quickly and for the right price.

The exterior of your home, or curb appeal, is the first impression you give to buyers.  In fact, potential buyers have already made some decisions about your home before they’ve even gotten out of their car, just based on what they see.  The number one mistake sellers make is to neglect the exterior appeal of the home and just concentrate on the inside.  The inside of a home can be just what a buyer is looking for, but if you’ve already turned them off, it can be difficult for them to see the true potential of the home, or bring an offer with the best price.

From the outdoor decorations you choose to the care you take in maintaining the landscape, show your home at its best to potential buyers with these tips:

1. Outdoor deco is a great way to add visual appeal, but avoid very personal things like religious items and be sure to put away children’s toys and pet items.

2. Over time, the grassy areas of your yard may have become your perfect garden oasis.  While it was great for you, a potential buyer may see that as a lot of work.  In order to appeal to the largest number of buyers, make some changes to offer a lower maintenance area.

3. Keep the driveway open and free of clutter.  If you have a garage, park the car in it, don’t leave it in the driveway.  Believe it or not, buyers will think there must not be enough room for their vehicle if yours is in the driveway.

4. The paint color of your home should be neutral, just like the interior.  You may love the vibrant orange you chose two years ago, but a potential buyer may see that as work they have to do, which in turn will keep your home on the market longer or invite lower than asking price offers.

5. Weed, weed, weed, and get rid of anything dead.  I can’t stress enough how important a little thing like weeding and dead plants can be when your home is for sale.  The way you present the landscaping gives buyers a look into how well you maintain the home overall.

6. Replace, fix, or paint things like shutters and window boxes.  If it’s been on your to-do list, make sure it’s done before putting the home on the market.  That goes for seasonal maintenance as well, like power washing sidewalks and siding or brick.

7. Just as buyers get their first impression of the overall home from your curb appeal, you must take into consideration how well your neighbors take care of their yards.  If there is a particular yard that hasn’t been kept up, you could offer your help in bringing it back to life!

Do you have any other tips to add?  Do you have a curb appeal nightmare story?  Please leave a comment below, I’d love to hear them!
