palm-treesWhile Labor Day often signals the winding down of the summer season, Hilton Head Island locals consider it more of the start to a new vacation season. The events just keep on coming and with the weather averaging between 70-85 degrees, it’s the perfect time to be here!

If you’re going to be on HHI over labor day weekend, take a look at some of the things you can do!

1. One of this area’s most anticipated annual events is the Hilton Head Island Celebrity Golf Tournament, this year August 30-September 1. The golf tournament benefits 20 well-deserving children’s charities in the South Carolina Lowcountry.

2. Harbourfest at Shelter Cove is an annual tradition that brings family and friends together all summer long, with Labor Day being the completion. During HarbourFest, Shelter Cove features live entertainment seven nights a week, plus unforgettable food, arts and crafts from an array of vendors, bouncy houses, fireworks and a flurry of fun activity. There is no admission charge for HarbourFest!

3. Family Freshwater Fishing Tournament – On Saturday, August 31, from 9:30am-12pm, join the Sea Pines Forest Preserve to fish for bass, bream and catfish at Fish Island. Try to win a prize in one of the tournament categories and roast hot dogs and marshmallows around a fire. Reservations are required and may be made by calling The Sea Pines Resort Recreation Department at 843-842-1979.

3 Firworks Celebrations for July 4th in Hilton Head Island

fireworksThe 4th of July holiday is such a fantastic time to be in Hilton Head Island! Picture fireworks, festivities, music and so much more to celebrate our independence and the summer itself.

This year our area has three fireworks displays for you that will be enjoyed whether you’re here on a family vacation, romantic getaway, or are one of our residents!

1. Shelter Cove Harbour
This free and family friendly 4th of July celebration takes place at Shelter Cove Harbour during our annual signature summer event, Harbourfest, which occurs June through August. At dusk on the 4th, you’ll see an extravagant display of fireworks over the harbor and you can even take a guided kayak tour to see the fireworks from a unique point of view! Shannon Tanner, a staple at Harbourfest since 1988, will be performing a variety of patriotic selections at 6:30pm and 8:00pm.

During HarbourFest, Shelter Cove features live entertainment seven nights a week, plus unforgettable food, arts and crafts from an array of vendors, bouncy houses, fireworks on Tuesdays and even more fun activities.

2. For live, outside entertainment, visit any of these three restaurants on the water, starting at 6:00pm:

The fireworks start at 9:30 and will be launched from a barge in the Intracoastal Waterway/Skull Creek. There will be food and drinks at all three locations, so they ask that you do not bring coolers.

3. Harbour Town
Harbour Town will have a variety of festivities including children’s activities, live music, food and drinks, and of course fireworks! The fireworks will begin about 9:15 (dusk) from a barge in Calibogue Sound. There is a $5.00 gate fee to enter the resort (unless you are a resident or guest staying on the resort) and a free shuttle service will be offered between Harbour Town and various parking lots in the Sea Pines Resort. Again, no coolers, please.

If you’ll be here in Hilton Head Island on vacation or are not familiar with the area, town ordinances prohibit the launch or discharge of fireworks within town limits and specifically from the beach.

How do you plan on celebrating the 4th of July this year?
