It is a commemorative time for Hilton Head Island and all those who have chosen to call it home, or their home away from home. All week long, Sept.30-Oct.5, Islander’s will be celebrating two significant moments in the history of Hilton Head.
What are we celebrating?
We’re celebrating the moment, 350 years ago, when Captain William Hilton sighted Hilton Head Island. Hilton originally intended the bluff he saw to be a guide for future sailors, naming it “Hilton’s Headland”. We’re also celebrating the 30th anniversary of the founding of the Town of Hilton Head Island!
All week long events are being held to celebrate these moments in our history! It’s such an exciting time, here are a few of the highlights:
- Community beach party
- Bus tours
- Walking tours
- Varied entertainment
- Sand castle competition
- Beach volleyball tournament
- Family games on the beach
- Art Exhibition
- Open house at Town Hall
- And so much more!

Here’s even more on the history of Hilton Head Island.
If you’re here celebrating the Island’s heritage, I hope you’re having a great time and enjoying all of the events. I highly recommend any of the bus or walking tours to really experience the area’s natural beauty!
