Hilton Head Island’s Winter Wonderland Festival

Hilton Head Island Winter Wonderland FestivalWith the holiday just around the corner, you’re probably marking your calendar with holiday events, activities, and of course getting your shopping done.  If you have little ones at home, there’s one event in particular you won’t want to miss…and neither will they!

The Hilton Head Island Winter Wonderland Festival was such a fantastic success last year, that it has been extended to two days this year instead of just one.  Gather your family and get ready for two afternoons of southern winter activities with Santa Claus, including multiple moon bounces, carnival games, a winter hayride, face painting, arts and crafts, tree decorating, live performances, AND a super exciting Golden Candy Cane Hunt!  Oh, and don’t forget about the other concessions while you’re there – hot chocolate, s’mores, hot dogs, pizza and much more!

8 Ways to Celebrate the Holidays in Hilton Head Island

The festival is this weekend, December 14-15 at Shelter Cove Park (39 Shelter Cove Ln) from 4-8pm.  The Golden Candy Cane Hunt is at 4:30pm each day.  For ages 2-15 admission is $10/per child and includes most activities…parents are FREE!  All of the proceeds of this event benefit the Hilton Head Island Recreation Association Children’s Scholarship Fund.

The 4 Events of The Hilton Head Island Motoring Festival and Concours d’Elegance

The annual Hilton Head Island Motoring Festival & Concours d’Elegance is one of the most highly anticipated annual events in our area, and packs four awesome events into one week!  We thought the event may be interrupted by the severe hurricane that blew in along the East coast but, thankfully, everything is happening according to plan.

The Motoring Festival began on October 26, 2012 with the first of four events; The Savannah Speed Classic.  Held on Hutchinson Island in Savannah, GA, this event brings back Savannah’s racing heritage.  The Speed Classic is a unique race track experience offering an intimate look at the inner workings of racing!  With features such as hot lap rides and pit access, you’ll be strapped in at full throttle, up close and personal.

The second event, Motoring Midway, will be here in Hilton Head this weekend, November 3-4, 2012.  This fun event is unique to Hilton Head Island and offers an eclectic mix of motoring heritage and technology.  Exhibits planned for this year include: Life in the Service, On the Water, Two Wheels, Road to the Future and automotive-themed children’s activities.

The most nostalgic day of the Festival is CarClub Jamboree, is on November 3. With car clubs traveling from throughout the U.S, an eclectic mix of over 150 cars, including muscle cars, hot rods and European sports cars, a little bit of everyone’s story will be told!

Concours d’Elegance, the main event of the Festival, features over 150 classic vehicles competing for the coveted title of Best of Show, the Concours offers that “wow factor”!  This part of the festival will be on November 4.

Parking (including designated space for handicap parking) is available on-site at the Coastal Discovery Museum at Honey Horn for $10 per car and complimentary off-site/remote parking is available at the Hilton Head Island Public School complex with a shuttle to the event site.

You can purchase tickets online or at the gate and there are weekend and VIP packages available.  Bring the entire family and remember that kids 12 and under get in for free!

This is just one of the annual events here in Hilton Head Island that keep visitors and new residents flocking here all throughout the year.  Another reason just might be that the weather is still pushing 70 degrees the first weekend of November!

It’s going to be a beautiful weekend for the Motoring Festival in HHI, will you be there?

Hilton Head Island Has 3 Annual Events Saturday, May 19

Forget your house chores this weekend and enjoy Hilton Head Island!  Three annual events are all happening on Saturday and since they are all popular, it may be hard to choose which one or ones you’ll spend your time attending.  Other than some scattered thunderstorms, Saturday is expected to be another beautiful day on the Island!

Rib Burnoff and Barbecue Fest
This year marks the 16th year for the Rib Burnoff and Barbecue Fest which will be held at The Coastal Discovery Museum at Honey Horn, from 12:00pm-4:00pm on Saturday, May 19.  Sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Hilton Head Island, this event calls for restaurants and amateur cooks to compete to win awards for best barbecue and ribs.  Certified barbecue judges as well as ticket holders vote to determine the winners.

Music will be provided by The Portajohns and a free children’s play area will be available so bring the whole family!  Beer, wine, soda, hot dogs, and ice cream will also be available for purchase.  Net proceeds go to children’s charities, so this is event is for a great cause.

Hilton Head Island Beer Festival

All Saints Garden Tour
This is the 25th year for the All Saints Garden Tour, an island classic that provides access to eight of the finest gardens on Hilton Head Island, as well as a luncheon in the All Saints Episcopal Church’s parish hall.  It starts at 10:00am on Saturday, May 19th and lasts until 4:00pm.

Tickets for this event are $30 and include: tour of the gardens, seated luncheon, a “Flower Bower” Boutique, a “Heavenly Confections” Bake Sale, Pino Gelato, the opportunity to purchase original works of art, live organ music,  a lecture on drought-tolerant plants, and a floral arrangement demonstration.

Mary Anne Gebler, Chair of the 2012 All Saints Garden Tour Board, has pointed out, “Our Silver Anniversary event provides the rare opportunity for everyone to see some of the premier gardens in our area, while at the same time helping our community respond to the challenges of hunger, homelessness, and literacy.”
