3 Firworks Celebrations for July 4th in Hilton Head Island

fireworksThe 4th of July holiday is such a fantastic time to be in Hilton Head Island! Picture fireworks, festivities, music and so much more to celebrate our independence and the summer itself.

This year our area has three fireworks displays for you that will be enjoyed whether you’re here on a family vacation, romantic getaway, or are one of our residents!

1. Shelter Cove Harbour
This free and family friendly 4th of July celebration takes place at Shelter Cove Harbour during our annual signature summer event, Harbourfest, which occurs June through August. At dusk on the 4th, you’ll see an extravagant display of fireworks over the harbor and you can even take a guided kayak tour to see the fireworks from a unique point of view! Shannon Tanner, a staple at Harbourfest since 1988, will be performing a variety of patriotic selections at 6:30pm and 8:00pm.

During HarbourFest, Shelter Cove features live entertainment seven nights a week, plus unforgettable food, arts and crafts from an array of vendors, bouncy houses, fireworks on Tuesdays and even more fun activities.

2. For live, outside entertainment, visit any of these three restaurants on the water, starting at 6:00pm:

The fireworks start at 9:30 and will be launched from a barge in the Intracoastal Waterway/Skull Creek. There will be food and drinks at all three locations, so they ask that you do not bring coolers.

3. Harbour Town
Harbour Town will have a variety of festivities including children’s activities, live music, food and drinks, and of course fireworks! The fireworks will begin about 9:15 (dusk) from a barge in Calibogue Sound. There is a $5.00 gate fee to enter the resort (unless you are a resident or guest staying on the resort) and a free shuttle service will be offered between Harbour Town and various parking lots in the Sea Pines Resort. Again, no coolers, please.

If you’ll be here in Hilton Head Island on vacation or are not familiar with the area, town ordinances prohibit the launch or discharge of fireworks within town limits and specifically from the beach.

The Fireworks Display of HarbourFest 2012 ~ The Main Attraction

HarbourFest is the signature summer event here in Hilton Head Island, attracting both locals and visitors from all over to partake in live entertainment seven nights a week, delicious food, arts and crafts from a variety of vendors, bouncy houses for the kids, and so much other fun activity.  This annual event happens from June through August at Shelter Cove Harbour and the best part – it’s FREE!!

HarbourFest isn’t just about the food and fun, it’s also an excuse to provide one our favorite things — Fireworks!  Fireworks aren’t just for 4th of July and New Year’s Eve in Hilton Head, you can see them once a week throughout the entire summer.

The fireworks are every Tuesday starting at dusk and make for the perfect opportunity to gather the entire family and your friends and head to Shelter Cove to see the spectacular show.  Just picture the oranges, reds, purples, greens, blues, and every combination popping overhead above the water!

In July, instead of the fireworks happening on Tuesday the 3rd, HarbourFest will have an expanded show on Wednesday, the 4th of July.  You can even watch the fireworks from the water with Outside Hilton Head’s special “Fireworks Paddle” guided kayak tours!

Here’s the 2012 HarbourFest fireworks schedule:

Tuesdays, June 19 & 26
Wednesday, July 4 (expanded show) (no show Tuesday, July 3rd)
Tuesdays, July 10, 17, 24 & 31
Tuesdays, August 7 & 14

HarbourFest truly is one of our favorite events here on the Island and will continue to get better and better each year.  Something I hope never changes is the entertainment by Shannon Tanner.  In fact, this year marks his 24th season of providing light hearted performances for the entire family including sing-a-longs, pop music, classic tunes, and his own original ballads.  He has been performing here since 1988 and has become somewhat of a staple during HarbourFest!  Shannon Tanner performs Monday through Friday at 6:30pm and 8:00pm.

Spend your summer evenings at Shelter Cove Harbour for this festival of entertainment that will create memories to last a lifetime!
