There are many ways to explore all of the natural beauty and habitats that Hilton Head Island has to offer, but one of the best ways is by bike! Biking is the perfect way to get up close and personal with the views and wildlife, not to mention the pictures you’re able to capture that you wouldn’t if driving.

Our area boasts 50 miles of private bike paths and now 53 miles of public access paths, and of course the 12 miles of beaches with hard-packed sand perfect for biking! The ability to bike through the different areas in Hilton Head is also a great way to house hunt, before you’re ready to formally schedule a showing.

Coligny Beach Park: Best Family Beach in Hilton Head Island

Coligny Beach ParkWhether you’re on a family vacation or your family lives in Hilton Head Island, there’s no doubt that going to the beach is one of the things you look forward to. While our area is home to 12 miles of gorgeous sandy beaches, Coligny Beach Park is the most family friendly AND fun for adults too. In fact, in 2011, Parents Magazine named Coligny Beach Park the #2 Best Family Beach out of thousands of beaches across the United States!

The beach is located at Coligny circle which intersects Pope Avenue with North and South Forest Beach Drive. At the beach, you’ll find restrooms, outdoor showers, pay phones, WI-FI, and is handicap-accessible. In addition to all of that, The Holiday Inn on the beach has volleyball courts as well as a full service outdoor bar called The Tiki Hut.

One of the things that is especially kid-friendly, and safe, about Coligny Beach is the shallow water. You have to walk out about thirty feet to be above 3 feet of water. At low-tide, you can wade and swim in the pools of water and even find a few beach friends like sand dollars and starfish.

Your Guide to the 12 Miles of Hilton Head Island Beaches

This is one of the best parts; since the re-design, Coligny Beach Park features fountains with synchronized jets! Not only are the fountains fun for kids and adults, it’s the perfect way to rinse off the salty ocean water after being at the beach!

Coligny Beach Park has other fun things you can do during your visit. Cool off in a swing under a gazebo, relax in the rocking chairs or Adirondack chairs, and taking family pictures are just a few.

Directly across from the beach is a major retail area called Coligny Plaza. Not just any retail area either, but a place that offers shopping and dining, entertainment, and a movie theatre.

What are your favorite things to do on the beach?

5 Creative Ways to Have Fun With Easter Eggs in Hilton Head Island

Easter Egg Fun in Hilton Head IslandA favorite past time for children everywhere is to have fun with Easter eggs this time of year, so here are a few creative Easter egg activities that I wanted to share, compliments of parents.com!

The wide open sandy beaches here in Hilton Head Island may not have the most places to hide Easter eggs for a hunt, but there are a number of other places like Shelter Cove Park and even your own backyard that would be perfect!

1. Make an Easter egg time capsule
Have your child write a letter to herself, describing what she likes most about this time of year (or anything else she or he wants to write about!) Put the letter inside of an Easter egg and put it away until next year. Include this “time capsule” in next year’s egg hunt and when it gets opened, they can read the letter they wrote to themselves!

2. Add a twist with glow sticks
Glow sticks add a twist to your typical Easter egg hunt. Get your kids in on the action by having them fold their favorite colored sticks inside plastic eggs with some candy. Now all you have to do is hide them and wait until it gets dark!

3. Have an Easter egg lunch hunt
Fill the Easter eggs with items your child would eat for lunch, like cheese, grapes, nuts, bites of sandwiches etc. Hide the eggs around the house and right before lunch get the hunt started…once they are collected and opened, your child can eat lunch right out of the eggs!

4. A numbers game
In addition to stuffing plastic eggs with candy, slip in pieces of paper with numbers on them. Once kids find the eggs, have them add up their numbers – the highest total gets a prize.

5. Picture Puzzle
This is one of my favorite ideas! Instead of stuffing Easter eggs with candy, cut up a picture and hide the pieces inside the eggs. Once the kids find all the eggs they can put the picture together!

These are just five of the creative Easter egg ideas from parents.com. There are 6 more to choose from here!

From my family to yours, have a very happy and fun holiday weekend!
