5 Creative Ways to Have Fun With Easter Eggs in Hilton Head Island

Easter Egg Fun in Hilton Head IslandA favorite past time for children everywhere is to have fun with Easter eggs this time of year, so here are a few creative Easter egg activities that I wanted to share, compliments of parents.com!

The wide open sandy beaches here in Hilton Head Island may not have the most places to hide Easter eggs for a hunt, but there are a number of other places like Shelter Cove Park and even your own backyard that would be perfect!

1. Make an Easter egg time capsule
Have your child write a letter to herself, describing what she likes most about this time of year (or anything else she or he wants to write about!) Put the letter inside of an Easter egg and put it away until next year. Include this “time capsule” in next year’s egg hunt and when it gets opened, they can read the letter they wrote to themselves!

2. Add a twist with glow sticks
Glow sticks add a twist to your typical Easter egg hunt. Get your kids in on the action by having them fold their favorite colored sticks inside plastic eggs with some candy. Now all you have to do is hide them and wait until it gets dark!

3. Have an Easter egg lunch hunt
Fill the Easter eggs with items your child would eat for lunch, like cheese, grapes, nuts, bites of sandwiches etc. Hide the eggs around the house and right before lunch get the hunt started…once they are collected and opened, your child can eat lunch right out of the eggs!

4. A numbers game
In addition to stuffing plastic eggs with candy, slip in pieces of paper with numbers on them. Once kids find the eggs, have them add up their numbers – the highest total gets a prize.

5. Picture Puzzle
This is one of my favorite ideas! Instead of stuffing Easter eggs with candy, cut up a picture and hide the pieces inside the eggs. Once the kids find all the eggs they can put the picture together!

These are just five of the creative Easter egg ideas from parents.com. There are 6 more to choose from here!

From my family to yours, have a very happy and fun holiday weekend!

5 Interior Improvements to Make Before you Sell Your Hilton Head Island Home

Interior Fixes to Sell Your Hilton Head Island HomeEven small changes can make a big impact on the length of time your home will be on the market, as well as how much you will sell it for.  Spending a minimal amount of money to make necessary changes will position your home to sell faster than the competition.

Imagine yourself as the buyer…No matter what reason a buyer has to move to the Hilton Head Island area, chances are they want to take advantage of all our area has to offer. Instead of giving buyers a list of chores they’ll have to do once they move in, give them the chance to relax on the beach instead by making the home improvements before you list!

These interior fixes and suggestions will help you, the seller, get the most out of your money when making improvements to your home.

Lighting
Any space is more inviting when it has the appropriate lighting. Brighten up spaces like the kitchen with plug-in, under-cabinet lights. If the lighting in the bathroom is outdated, replacing it now will keep it off of a buyers to-do list. Sconces are a less expensive way of adding visual appeal and light to a room.

Appliances
The appliances in your kitchen should match, at least in color. Instead of buying a new stove because it’s black and the refrigerator and dishwasher are white, you can use high-heat spray paints made especially for appliances.  This is only recommended if the appliance is in good working order.

Cabinetry
Updating the cabinetry in your kitchen or bathroom doesn’t have to be an expensive overhaul. By simply painting the cabinetry and changing out the hardware, your kitchen or bathroom cabinetry can be completely transformed!

Flooring
One of the ways to make a major impact in a room is to change the flooring, especially if it is outdated vinyl or old carpet. A less expensive way of upgrading the flooring is to use a floating floor that you can install yourself instead of tile or stone. This will bring the floor to the current style, and you will save money by installing it yourself instead of hiring someone.

Add a Fresh Coat of Paint
The colors you have chosen to live with may be outdated, dingy, or just too bright! Buyers will be able to better visualize themselves living in the space with a clean, neutral color pallet throughout the home. To find better prices for paint, start by checking the “sale” sections of home improvement stores. Paint that was mixed, then not purchased is usually sold for a reduced price. It may not have been the right color for someone else, but it could be perfect to prepare your home for sale!

Help make your Hilton Head Island home the one buyers want by making it as move-in ready as possible. Give those buyers the chance to experience the beach, golf, and our many other recreational activities without having to spend the time indoors completing home updates!

Do you have other suggestions to add to this list?

2 Days of Seafood and Live Music ~ Hilton Head’s Annual Seafood Fest 2013

Hilton Head Island Seafood Fest 2013

Last year the Hilton Head Island Seafood Fest was extended to two days and proved to be just what the seafood goers needed! It will be a two-day event again this year, marking the 6th year for this favorite family festival.

Held each year in April, as the days continue to increase in warm temps averaging 72 to 78 degrees F, the Seafood Fest features more than a dozen local restaurants preparing their seafood specialties for your taste buds! Add in the “Iron Chef” – style competition, live entertainment by Cranford & Sons and The Headliners, other local artists, a silent auction, and a kids zone, you can see why we need 2 days to have all this fun!

This year The Seafood Fest is Friday, April 5, from 5-8pm and Saturday, April 6, from 11am-5pm at Shelter Cove Community Park.

This family friendly event helps to raise money for the David M. Carmines Memorial Foundation, which benefits the American Cancer Society, MD Anderson Cancer Research Center & Island Recreation Scholarship Fund. The Foundation was established by the Carmines family, owners of Hudson’s Seafood House on the Docks restaurant, in memory of their son, and the seafood festival is the organization’s main fundraiser.

Check out the variety of restaurants that are participating this year:
