How to Mix Different Decor Styles

There is no one-size-fits-all anymore when it comes to the way you decorate and accessorize your home. Whether you’re dreaming of high-end style, relaxing in a southern atmosphere, hope to get cozy in a rustic style you’d find in the mountains, or create a combination of these styles, it’s easy to accomplish with the right know-how.

Use these tips to keep from going overboard while achieving a style that’s right for you and your family, no matter where you live.

Use Light Tones
Using light tones like white, cream, and light gray on your walls will give you a backdrop to display just about any type of decor. It will give you the ability to introduce patterns and pops of color without giving the space an overwhelming feeling.

Mix Rustic and Modern
Utilize a room separator to introduce a rustic element like a wooden beam and columns.

Mix Timeless and Unique
There are certain elements that don’t seem to ever go out of style, like metallic fixtures on the walls, wood floors, and chrome finishes. Add your own style to these timeless elements by introducing bold colors or patterns in an area rug, kitchen back splash, or new sofa.

I hope you’ve found these tips helpful in preparing to update your space. What room in your home is next on your list to make changes to?

Signs Your Home is Luxurious

Luxury Home

The definition of luxury is “the state of great comfort and extravagant living.” That being said, what may be extravagant to one person may not be to someone else. Perspective plays a role in determining whether or not your home is considered luxurious, but there are a few tell tale signs that certainly indicate extravagance and great comfort!

Is My Home Luxurious?

Lets take a look. The following are signs that your home is in fact considered luxurious, regardless of someone’s impression of the way you live. It is the combination of these characteristics that will help in defining your home as luxurious.

1. Location
While not everyone will enjoy living at the beach, beach living has the feeling of luxury all its own. Do you reside on a tropical island? Do you live at the top of a mountain? Location itself does not define luxury, but it does play a role.

2. Cost
Let’s face it. The more luxurious the home, the more expensive it will be. But location does play a part in the price of the home as well, so not every expensive home can be considered a luxury.

3. Style and Amenities
The largest factors in determining whether or not you’re living in luxury come down to the overall style and the amenities your home is adorned with. As per the definition, great comfort and extravagant living make a home luxurious. Does your home look like all the others in your neighborhood but have features that are considered extravagant like an indoor swimming pool? The pool would be luxurious, but not necessarily your home.

If your home is at the peak of the neighborhood, significantly different in style, large enough to sleep 8, each with their own bathroom? This type of home may be considered luxurious, compared to the others on the same street.

4. Features
Luxurious homes often have at least a few of the following:

  • A sauna room, spa-like space, or home gym that resemble that of a resort.
  • A level dedicated to entertaining, maybe with movie theater style seating.
  • A finished basement complete with bedrooms, a separate kitchen, and entertaining space.
  • An indoor swimming pool.
  • A garage for multiple cars, and possibly an extension for an RV or a boat.
  • Extravagant decor like one of a kind artwork, sculptures, or chandeliers.
  • Top of the line comfort in furniture.
  • An outdoor entertaining space like a kitchen with a pool.
  • More than one fireplace in the home.

As I said previously, not everyone has the same idea of what a luxury home is, but the signs provided in this post are a great way to determine if your home meets the luxury standard.

Hilton Head Island has a variety of luxurious homes for sale, whether you’re looking to live right along the South Carolina coast or inland in a private, gated, and secure community.

The Difference Between Hiring a Realtor or Going it Alone

Reasons to Hire a RealtorThe benefits of hiring a real estate agent during the selling or buying process far outweigh any reason you may have for attempting to go through the process on your own.

When you add up the amount of information, negotiations, time spent, and knowledge needed, one real estate transaction could become a full time job. Let the person who specializes in real estate handle what they are experienced to handle so you can have the assurance the transaction goes as well as it should.

Reasons to Hire a Realtor

YOU: May not have the necessary negotiation skills required to converse and agree on a part in the transaction.
REALTOR: Has the required negotiation skills to not only save time, but ensure a smooth process.

YOU: May not know the right questions to ask to make sure you are not being “taken for a ride.” If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is.
REALTOR: A Realtor has the experience and the training required to ask the right questions and to know when something just isn’t right during the process.

YOU: May be unfamiliar with the neighborhood your moving into. This could affect you down the road in terms of safety, schools for your children, or availability of jobs.
REALTOR: Has superior knowledge of each area they service, from the safest places in your target area to live, which school district would suit your children the best, and all of the other neighborhood/city information that would be important to know.

YOU: May not be aware of the current market conditions which play a huge part in how you proceed whether you’re a buyer or seller.
REALTOR: A Realtor has the housing market knowledge necessary to make certain decisions, like how much to list your home for, what (if any) improvements or changes need to be made before listing, how much to offer on a home you like, area taxes, etc.

YOU: May not know what is needed to obtain a mortgage in the current market.
REALTOR: Will be up to date on changes in the mortgage rules, paperwork required, and best lenders to work with.

YOU: May not have access to the hundreds of websites available to market and promote your home for sale.
REALTOR: Has access to each and every avenue of showing your home for sale to the largest number of potential buyers. From video to the perfect listing pictures, a Realtor has the tools and experience necessary to get the job done – correctly!

YOU: May not know the best professionals to enlist during the buying or selling process. For example, a home inspector, painter, movers, home stager, and the list goes on.
REALTOR: Agents are constantly networking and work with these professionals on a daily basis. You can rest assured that you’ll get the best recommendation for quality work.

Would you show up in the emergency room and perform surgery (if you’re not a surgeon)? Of course not! A real estate transaction is just as complicated and should be left to the professionals.

I am curious though, is anyone reading this post someone that has completed a real estate transaction without hiring an agent? If so, would you mind sharing how the process went for you?
