Hilton Head Plantation, a luxury gated community located in beautiful Hilton Head Island, is proud to house four different golf courses that entice every golf enthusiast from the completely inexperienced to the novice of all novices. Ranging in difficulty, pars, and scenic views, any one of the four would be a wonderful way to spend a morning, afternoon, or entire day. After all, what’s better than spending time outdoors, especially in an area that just calls for fun and relaxation?
Dolphin Head Golf Club
As a member of Dolphin Head Golf Club, you are offered a challenging and exceptional golf experience for all skill levels. The first design by Gary Player, it was the first course in the Hilton Head area and was opened in 1974, making it Hilton Head Plantation’s first golf course. What’s more is that golf isn’t the only fun you’ll be having here, as members also enjoy a variety of social activities and special dining events.
How’s this for luxury – phones are located at both nine and the eighteenth holes with a posted menu so golfers can place an order ahead of time to help the speed of play. The menu offers hot and cold sandwiches, hot dogs, soups, salads, and plenty of beverage options including the ice and water dispenser and coffee!
Bear Creek Golf Club
The Bear Creek Golf Club offers members a different kind of convenience and a warm community atmosphere where there are no tee times, no reservation requirements, no fees for carts or for range balls, and there is no tipping! All golfing abilities for men, women, singles, and couples are welcome, and be sure to have your camera’s ready on this course as you never know what sort of wildlife may be sharing your tee time!
Rees Jones designed Bear Creek in 1978 and it has been completely renovated and revamped in 2005. You do not need to own a Hilton Head Plantation property to play this course.
Country Club of Hilton Head
The golf course at Country Club of Hilton Head is situated along historic “Skull Creek” and is an 18-hole Rees Jones design. It was chosen as the local qualifying site for both the 1999 and 2005 U.S. Opens and presents a challenging but fair layout with five sets of tees. The course has distinct scenic views among a stately pine forest, salt water marshes, and fresh water lagoons, with 14 doglegs and water on almost every hole.
On this course, you’ll also find a practice driving range, a practice putting green, a practice chipping and bunker green, private lessons from PGA Professionals Chip Pellerin and Jeff Picus, a beverage cart service, a full-service golf shop, and Cobra and Titleist sets available for rent.
Oyster Reef Golf Club
This breathtaking, 18 hole championship golf course is surrounded by winding lagoons, lush vegetation, and scenic views of Hilton Head Island. Oyster Reef Golf Club, also designed by Rees Jones, combines a variety of skill levels ranging from 7,014 yards from the championship tees, to 5,288 yards from the forward tees.
Opened in 1982, this course has been voted one of the Top 20 courses in the Carolinas and was most recently awarded Low Country Golf Course Owners Association “2006 Golf Club of the Year”. Oyster Reef Golf Club has also been named as one of the “Top 75 U.S. Golf Resorts” by Golf Digest and was named as the favorite course of Hilton Head Island golfers by The Island Packet newspaper.
